<intro>
Michael Vick has admitted in a radio interview with 790 AM The Zone in Atlanta that while during the time he played for the Falcons, that he was not giving 100%. Vick openly admitted that he was not anywhere near the quarterback he should have been.

"There was a lot more I could have done off the field and in the film room that could have elevated my game to a different level," Vick said. "I was complacent at the time, somewhat lazy, and I settled for mediocrity. I thought what I was doing was enough. Just imagine what I could have been doing if I really would have been applying myself. That's a regret I have."

The Fans in Atlanta loved Vick, and in return, he took their money, he took their cheers, and he spat in their faces by not caring about the game of football and doing his job to his maximum ability like he was paid millions of dollars to do.
</intro>

    <intro>
The Falcons cleansed themselves of a huge, King Kong sized monkey Jinx on their back!

For every Falcon's fan and player....this is a day of reverence. All eyes were on this team, this game today to hopefully, watch something that no one has ever seen from their beloved team. Back to back winning seasons!

There were times I found myself imagining for the nest 2 years what life would be like wishing, again, for a winning season but I kept being brought back to the moment to a newly found attitude of "never giving up", something that I was desperately holding on to. After all, these Falcons have played differently...they haven't reacted as Falcons of the past when it came to throwing in the towel after adversity.

These guys have fought to the end and have won games that past Falcons teams would have lost. Over the past two years, it seems as though this team would be different than others. I don't exactly know why...I just felt it. Of course, I've felt it before only to watch the Falcons crash and burn over and over again. I swear...this time felt different.

This game was another one of those "glad I didn't give up on them" kind of game. They pulled it out and made me, all fans and players, past and present, whole. We are legitimate. Now we can go out and win, the sky is the limit. Who knows, this might have even erased the Cowboy Curse! Time will tell. BRAVO FALCONS!!!

OK, to the game.

There are a lot of positives coming out of this game. First and more obviously, is the exorcism of the 43 yard jinx. Second, they won their last three games! Good winning streak. Thirdly, their defense has really stepped up to the plate and solidified over the last 3 games, allowing only 2 touch downs and allowing only 20 points, not bad at all.

Jason Snelling ran for a career high 147 yards and literally, was the straw that broke the camel's (Buc's) back. Matt Ryan didn't play great but he did throw two touch downs. Roddy white had two touch downs, Mike Jenkins help his own and our defense, especially our corners, Grimes and Owens, intercepted the Bucs at crucial times. Keep these guys coach!

Our line backers played a great game, as they have all year. Our D-line was impressive putting constant pressure of the Buc's QB and our O-line pushed people of the ball for Snelling and Norwood and kept Ryan from getting sacked, except for one time, I think.

These are all positive issues that will hold over until next year. It will give the team something to cling to as they evolve into a winning ball club. This and the return of all of the injured players that we were counting on to contribute this year...I, for one, are already looking forward to next year!

I'm proud to be a Falcons fan. At the beginning of the year, I said that I would be happy to get a winning season...to heck with the playoffs. I got my wish!

Putting this season into perspective, going 9-7 with the 2nd hardest schedule in the NFL and loosing all of the players that we lost....just 2 less wins than last year....I think they did a DAMN GOOD job! I'm proud of them and I'm proud that they were the team that will go down in history as the team that "broke the jinx"!

Brags to all!

See you next September!

GO FALCONS!
</intro>

    <intro>
With one more win, the Falcons can break a 43 year old jinx!

Sorry for the delay...my computer was in the shop. Miss me?

All though the Falcons looked strong in the second half of the Bill's game, winning convincingly, 31-3, there were times I could see the writing on the wall. Of course, I was wrong, thank God...old habits are hard to break, and the birds went on to dominate the bills with a solid defensive effort as well as a good offensive showing.

The "writing on the wall" was in the first quarter when on the first drive, from the 6 yard line, the Falcons had to settle for a field goal instead of a touchdown. A 51 yard field goal. You can add the numbers on that one and see my concern. I firmly believe firmly that you need touchdowns instead of field goals to win against any team in this league.

On the Falcons second possession, the got an untimely holding call that stopped the drive. At that point, 7-0 in not good on 2 possessions with the other team getting the ball. On the next possession we kicked a field goal...ok, that helped but not good enough. You jjust can't keep the opponent in the game.

The last play of the first half exemplifies my reasoning. The Bill' splay.was a muff, latteraling down the field until they crossed the end zone line. A 50 yard play that would have brought the Bill's within 3 points at the half....very dangerous position to be in for a Falcon.

After the replay, to me, it was a touch down. I'm good at seeing these things, so I was really pissed at the blotched penalties prior to this, The refs ruled a player's knee was down before he lateraled it to his next com-padre. Luck was on our side. It was a touchdown and the Gods shown their mercy upon the Falcons.

I hate the way the Falcons have always had a touch for drama. Here we were, defending a quarterback who had never played a down in the NFL. The stage was set. In the past, the Birds would make newby's like Brohm look like Heisman winners on route to the NFL Hall of Fame. With the "new Falcons"...it was not to be.

In the second half, the defense stiffened and the offense cranked it up to score 14 points in 1:30 and before you new it...the score was 24-0. I was feeling much better now. I could feel that tightness in my solar plexus loosen. It was not the night for the opposition to win. Thank God! All was right with the universe.

Let's get to Brags and Rags....

Rags to Roddy White for such a bone-head, off sides penalty on the 6 yard line. Brags to Roddy for coming through for 2 more scores that night, He went over 1000 yards for the season in that game.

Rags to Ojinnaka for the holding call that stalled the second drive in it's tracks, although, I'm sure it was a marginal call.

Brags to the Offense for a strong showing as well as the defense. I personally feel that our whole defense is stronger with Grimes in the lineup rather than Houston. Ever since Houston's been injured, the D is more sound. I wish I had a team of Brent Crime's. He's always in the mix and making strong plays. He may not be big enough to tackle a man but he will hanging on to him as someone else finishes him off.

Brags to "The Beerman" for his kicking off abilities. Good job! Who would'a thunk it! And they had Redman ready to come in and punt. Talk about diverse!!!

As always, there are a host of excellent players making excellent plays....the list is long. It's just that these particular folks made an "above all" impression, good or bad.

Next week is the clincher. This is what it all comes down to. They need this game for the entire history of the franchise. Will they be up for the challenge? A truly good team is. We will know by 4:15 pm or so on Sunday.

If they can stop Cadillac...we can win. Will they? Please God....just this one last win. It's all I ever asked for (refer to my first blog of the year).

    <intro>
The "cardiac kids" did it again. Winning the game on their last hope.

On a day that saw little offense and a whole lot of defense, the Falcons out-defensed the best defense in the league and one upped them on offense. That it happened on the last drive of the game doesn't matter. When the Falcons needed their offense to get the job done, they did.

As a Falcon's fan, I'll take a win, no matter what color it is. This one was ugly and possibly, undeserving but they prevailed in the end and that is all that counts! Take it from me, as a Falcon's fan, I've seen us lose to teams many times just as ugly a loss as this was to the Jets. I will definitely take it!

The game was a real double-edged sword....they showed hardy a whisper of offense and ingenious play calling throughout the game, however, they played the entire 60 minutes to win and never gave up. This type of win can go a long way in as far as the team bonding with each other. In the end, all of the big play makers, Norwood, Ryan, White and Gonzalez came through for the win. Something that strengthens the character of a team.

The offense would never have had the chance to win the game had it not been for our defense. They were solid today. Other than one long touchdown pass, we held them scoreless. The defense never let their running game get started. Not too shabby since they're the #1 rushing team in the league.

Brags go to the defense! Bravo! Special brags to Brent Grimes. He is special. He may be small but his heart is huge! If everyone played like he plays we would be world beaters! Two interceptions and a myriad of other smart plays...I'll keep him! Actually, I think our defense is better with him in there instead of Chris Houston.

Brags to our linebackers. They still amaze me. Lofton, Petterson and Nicholas. They are the dynamic threesome. Throw in Coy Wire and you have a solid group. The D-backs did their job today too. For once, their receivers weren't in the open running for YAC's. They were all over them. Strong showing.

Rags to Mularkey for not being creative on offense. Leading the lambs to slaughter. He needed to understand the Jets quickness and tenacity and dial up some creative misdirection stuff. We needed to be quicker than they were. One good thing is that we sometimes play the same play too much from the same formation. Today, they changed a play from the first time they ran it and Norwood got a needed first down out of it. We need to change up plays that are successful because when the defense gets burned, they usually remember that play and stuff it the next time.

That's what killed us in the Saint's game. The play they ran for the first down (on 4th down)that would have potentially helped in winning the game got stuffed because they ran the same play that had burned the Saint's twice before. Not the third time! Had they zigged instead of zagged, they would have gotten the first.

So, today wasn't the best win but I'LL TAKE IT! Brags to the whole team for hanging in there and for having enough pride to give their great fans back to back winning seasons for the first time in franchise history! The next two games, knock on wood, are winnable!

GO FALCONS!
</intro>

A week ago Atlanta Falcons DT Jonathan Babineaux said in a statement he wanted fans to "have faith that you will see I'm not guilty" of smoking marijuana.

Well now the police report is available and guess what it says? Um, that Babineaux admitted to smoking pot with his buddy while driving on a busy interstate highway. This was the “final” story though as Babineaux changed his story to the police several times before owning up to his illegal and idiotic actions.

Here’s what happened; first the officer stated his concern that the car smelled of marijuana, and Babineaux said that was because he loaned his car to some friends a few nights earlier and they had smoked the drug in it. For some reason Babineaux also offered up that his friend (the passenger in the car with him) had a medical marijuana license. I guess he was covering his tracks in case the “my friends did it the other night” lie didn’t work out.

Well the officer didn’t buy Babineaux’s response so he had a drug-sniffing dog check the car and guess what? The doggie found a baggie filled with marijuana, and also found some joints in a backpack in the backseat. Babineaux’s response to this was that he had just picked up his buddy at the airport and drove him somewhere so he could buy drugs. But don’t worry fans; Babineaux assured the officer he still didn’t smoke any pot. Just as confusing as when Babineaux volunteered the information about his friend’s medical marijuana license was this statement by Babineaux - that he hadn’t smoked pot in at least a year. Can you say “guilty conscience”? Jonathan Babineaux can.

At this point things are looking “OK” for Babineaux. After all, he’s telling the truth and he hasn’t used any illegal drugs. Based on that alone we can probably just ignore the fact that the officer found a spray used to cover up the odor of marijuana in the driver's door pocket. I’m sure it was just the air freshener scent Babineaux liked, and it was a crazy coincidence that it’s routinely used to mask the smell of marijuana. So Babineaux is in the clear, whew!

Oops, wait a minute. Babineaux’s buddy, the one he picked up at the airport and took to a drug house to buy pot wound up telling the officer that Babineaux did smoke "from the marijuana blunt at least two to three times." Wow, thanks buddy! So the officer talked to Babineaux again, and this time Babineaux admitted to smoking marijuana – but just once (sure, and he probably didn’t inhale either).

So why did Babineaux play Sunday in Atlanta's loss to the Saints? Well, according to Atlanta head coach Mike Smith, the Falcons simply obeyed NFL rules, which allowed Babineaux to play until Commissioner Roger “I hand out punishments on a whim” Goodell decides how to handle this matter (e.g., make Babineaux enter the league's substance abuse program, serve a four game suspension, let him off the hook completely). But coach Mike Smith did say the Falcons were "extremely disappointed" with the incident. That’s good to know Mikey. But don’t take it upon yourself to discipline your player…take the easy way out and let the NFL do that. Besides, you didn’t want to play a crucial division game as you fight for your playoff lives without one of your star defensemen, right? See, it’s this kind of moral value that I love about America – first make money and win, then worry about doing what’s right and taking ownership and responsibility of our actions...unless you can get off with a slick lawyer of course, then you don’t have to take ownership or responsibility at all.

But maybe I’m wrong about Babineaux. Maybe he is going to step up and do the right thing – you know, apologize, serve his punishment, make amends, learn a lesson. So what’s Babineaux’s current stance on this situation? "I don't have any comment and I can't talk to you right now". Hmm, maybe his agent or publicist or lawyer is taking the lead on this. Nope, Babineaux's lawyer never returned the calls seeking comment. Well surely the Falcons organization and the NFL want to behave appropriately for the fans and the community, especially the kids. Let’s see what their views are: Reggie Roberts, the Atlanta Falcons spokesman said the team would have no further comment on the arrest, and Greg Aiello, the NFL’s spokesman said the league will wait for the case to move through the legal process before deciding Babineaux's fate, adding "we're not going to prematurely judge anything".

I’m confused though; there’s a police report with Babineaux admitting to smoking pot while driving. How would the NFL be prematurely judging Babineaux if it acted now? Oh that’s right, the lawyer can get the case dropped on any number of technicalities and it’ll be like Babineaux never did anything wrong. But that’s fine with me; I don’t have to worry about that rich, spoiled, lying, pothead driving through my neighborhood and killing some innocent driver or pedestrian. Enjoy him Atlanta.

    <intro>
Although the Falcons lost this game....the Saints almost lost it first!

There are wins that you don't feel good about and there are losses that you feel good about.

This loss, I can live with. Why, for a few reasons. The first being, the Falcons had a chance to win the game and two, they didn't fold like a cheap lawn chair from their 14 point deficit and actually came back and tied the game against the "unstoppable", juggernaut, Saints.

From the beginning to the end, they gave the Saints all they could handle. If nothing else, it should spark the Falcons to play well enough down the roan to make a winning season out of it all.

Although the last plays were ridiculous (a offshoot of what got them there) the rest of the game was brilliant! Passes to the backs out of the backfield, tosses to the edges and a screen! A screen!!! How long has it been since we saw a real screen? It didn't work as planned but hey, it was a real screen! Had not one particular Saint had a shoestring tackle...it would have worked for a chunk of real estate.

I mentioned to my buddy Steveareno...if they are running those kind of plays to make up for our starting QB and running back being injured...that's ridiculous! They should be running those kind of plays with our #1 guys in there! They work!!! Are you reading this Smitty?

As a whole, the team fought from beginning to end! I'm extremely proud of them, considering the blunder they served up last week against the Eagles. Like I said...it was a loss I can feel good about.. Believe me, there have many losses that I didn't feel good about...most of them in fact.

We should have and could have won. Damn! That would not only made our season but we would have gone down in history for beating the unbeaten Saints...the mighty Saints! If Snelling could have gone 2 more yards and cut right instead of cutting into the field....we would have gotten a first down on the last forth down play. Then, all possibilities would have been open. Damn!

Like I said, I'm hoping that this near win will catapult them to win the next 3 winnable games, raising their record to 9-7 bringing a back to back winning season to this city for the first time in their 43 year existence.

At the beginning of the season, I told my buddy, Steveareno, that I would be happy with a 9-7 record. He thought I was downplaying the possibilities. GIVE ME A BREAK! I've been a Falcon's fan, and a avid fan at that, for 43 years. I saw the schedule...I knew what could happen. To make a long story short......he's now on my ban-wagon. He sees the light!

If we get a winning season this year...I'll be ecstatic and so will the city. As I said in my first blog this year (maybe my second blog) there is a huge monkey on our back and we need to shed the huge creature before we can move into a positive direction. That would be the best thing for this franchise this year!

Brags to the whole team! Bravo!

Brags to my boys Redman and Snelling...GREAT GAMES!

Rags to Mularkey for his bone-head calls....leave with the girl that you went to the dance with!

Braggs to Mukarkey too for the shots to the backs out of the backfield AND A SCREEN! See, they work!!! Nice shots down the field to our receivers too. We really need to stretch the field. Keep it coming!!!

Win the next three games! PLEEEEEASSS!!!

GO FALCONS!!!
</intro>

    <intro>
Alexander Graham Bell used that phrase to call for help after he spilled acid on himself!

Unfortunately, after the Falcons had dropped acid on their playoff hopes, there was no one to call for help!

The Falcon's lost, no, were embarrassed by the Eagles today. All of their playoff ("PLAYOFFS!...PLAYOFFS!) hopes were thrown out the window with the baby and the bathwater as well as their pride! They looked absolutely impotent today.

No one ever said that they would have a good defense, you know, like for stopping good teams from scoring...their goal, in the off season was to build a viable offense that could outscored the opposition. Don't EVEN get me started! Awe hell...I'll start anyway!

First off, I realize that 5 major offensive players were injured going into today's contest but when the team has 4 plays from the 7 yard line to get a score...somehow, with all of the $$$'s that are thrown at these guys...someone would have a clue on how to actually get a score. NOPE, not a clue! PALEEESE!

Let's see....with all the money given to the new GOD of the Falcon's Gonzales, would it occur to someone to throw the ball to him? After all, he was brought in to be this "Powerhouse" to help Matt Ryan on 3rd down conversions! Oh, I get it...that's the problem...Matt Ryan wasn't quarterbacking at the time! How would Redman know that? That seems as good an excuse as any.

Oh, and how about running Norwood around the end. After all, he is the fastest guy we have! Na...let's just run Snelling up the middle 4 times in a row and see if one of their guys misses him. DIDN"T HAPPEN! If you see the replays of any of those plays, the Eagles are stacking the middle! Don't the Falcons have a guy upstairs looking at tendencies of the opponents...let's see. Isn't his name Mularky? That a bunch of Mularky if you ask me!

The play calling was at it's worst today. The offense was so boring that Vick got an ovation when he came in to play for the wrong team! That's how boring the Falcon's offense was today! Damn, at least there was some excitement for somebody...even if it was the enemy!

Here's a note on that too: Atlanta fans can stay (those that didn't cheer when Vick scored on us) but the rest of you A-holes need to catch the next bus out of here! I'm glad Vick is playing again too but when he's on our field playing our team...HE'S THE ENEMY!!! Congratulate him AFTER the game! Shame on you transplants! Why don't you leave the natives and go home! We didn't ask you Northern A-holes to come here and we still hold a grudge!

This game was a downer from the end of the first half. Only being down 1 score going into the second half could have made for a good game. Instead, we took a dump right there on the field, waiting for Philly to come wipe our collective asses. They did! Actually, the score could have been even much more lopsided had they not shot themselves in the foot a few times. It was pathetic.

The entire defensive backfield need to go get real jobs...they don't deserve to make big bucks doing something that they have no clue in doing. Haven't these guys been doing this all their lives (football). How many eons does it take to learn that after 5 seconds, it's probably OK to turn around to play the ball instead of starring at the back of a receivers head as he catches it over YOUR shoulder!. Wouldn't you rather take a chance at intercepting the pass? Oh, I forgot! You couldn't hang on to the ball if it fell into your hands anyway! My mistake! What was I thinking! Here's a new concept....play the ball! Try it!

As for giving the ball to Norwood...not up the middle, morons! He needs to be able to juke someone out of their shoes...he's not a power runner. How about running him around the end, or throw him a screen pass. That brings me to the last series of the game. Where was that stuff during the rest of the game. That's the kind of plays that you should have been calling the whole game! Hey Coach! Did you notice the touchdown at the end of that drive? Try it again sometime! Naaa

No more hopes of playoffs and there is very little chance that we will remove the monkey off our backs when it comes to back to back winning seasons! Oh, the life of a Falcon's fan.

There's always next year I guess. Oh come on guys! You can do it! WIN 3 MORE GAMES!

Thank GOD for the Yellow Jackets!

GO FALCONS!

    <intro>
The Falcon's won this one but tried their best not to!

As a Falcon's fan....I will take any win, no matter how ugly or sloppy. Well, this one was disgusting! I could not believe how bad the Falcon's played. They, obviously have many issued to fix before becoming a high caliber team in the NFL

Where do I start? I'm really too pissed to go through all of their issues.

On offense, they had no pass blocking, no run blocking, no imagination in the play calling, no stand out, players (except for Redman, White and Norwood), no enthusiasm, no immediacy to winning...in general, flat as a pancake.

On defense, no rush, no blitz, no coverage, no interceptions, flat as a pancake too! After all, the worst team in the league came in here and looked like playoff contenders while making us look like the worst team in the league! Tampa set all kinds of records...more sacks more yardage, more passes caught, more completions, more 3rd downs made....the list is extensive. Today, their rookie quarterback looked like Dan Marino....OK, not that good, but good!

I have certain pet peeves that I express on a consistent basis through out the year. They are:

*If every player (defense and offense) were to catch every ball they touched, we would win.

*Run Turner around the ends not always up the middle and pass to him out of traffic!

*More Norwood! He's a game breaker!

*Blitz! Don't give the QB any time in the pocket. Time=completions.

*Run Screens, draws and throw to backs out of the backfield!

*Don't be a "running" or "Passing" team...be a "WINNING" team!

*Don't be predictable. Run deceptive plays.

The object is not to have an identity....it's to WIN GAMES! No matter how!

Today, when the Falcons did any of these, they fared well. For example: 2 Norwood touches, 2 timely gains,1 TD and a much needed first down!

I won't go through all of them but if you look at all of these factors...I'm right.

The Falcons deserved this victory today because they didn't give up. That's the good part. Old Falcon teams would have conceded to the loss. These guys didn't and they won a much needed win if they have any hope in having a winning season much less a playoff position.

They are going to have to build on this victory and learn from their mistakes....a myriad of mistakes, from the coaches to the players. They need to dig down deep and do some soul searching to change their attitudes about how they approach the next game. A winnable game with the Eagles. I'll say it now....2 words that will help them win this game...SHADOW WESTBROOK! He's 60% of their offense. The rest of the team can't beat you but Brian Westbrook can!

My Brags go to Chris Redman! I like him alot and he is a breath of fresh air for this offense. Not to mention that the offense is in good hands with him. He usually brings points to the scoreboard.

Brags to Roddy White for catching the winning touchdown pass with a defender draped all over him!

Brags to Gonzales for having a great game!

Brags to Jamal Anderson for another "uncalled" sack!

Rags to the whole team. Yes, they are winning some but they have been getting worse, slowly, over the last few weeks. I know they have had glimpses of greatness but overall, they haven't put a whole game together since the 49er game.

They talk about this run of 5 remaining games as being their "Playoff Run", well, they better start taking themselves seriously or they will be the same group of misfits as last year...with out back-to-back winning seasons in over40 years!

Get it together!

Go Falcons!
</intro>

    <intro>
For the first half of the game, the Falcon's defense looked like Swiss Cheese!

Far a defense that looked like Swiss Cheese in the first half, they came together and played like they should have. Not to say they were perfect, by any means, but they did tighten it up in the second half.

Now, it didn't help that Eli Manning happen to be putting passes in places that only a hall of famer quarterback could do. He was on target, throwing completions to his receivers 20 and 30 yards down the field with surgical precision. He absolutely chewed up the Falcon's D-backs for lunch!

I have to give our backs credit though, they were blanketing their guys. Unfortunately, they have this adversity to turning their heads to play the ball rather than the receiver. If they were to turn their heads once and a while, they'd end up with a pigskin in their hands. I mean, you can't get any closer to their man than they are at times, they just need to decide that the pass has to on it's way and TURN AROUND!

I was also proud that our guys came back in the second half (14 points down) and tied it up for overtime. If only they would have gotten the flip in overtime. The momentum was definitely on their side! I really think that they should change the overtime rules so both teams have a shot at the ball. Like college but let them play the entire field...not start at the 25 yards line.

Thank God we're done playing teams coming off their bye weeks. We've lost 4 out of 5 games and 4 of them had just come off bye weeks. See the connection? Not only do we not play any more rested teams...our schedule gets easier for the next 6 games. We play Tampa twice, the Jets and Bills ( I smell 4 wins there), Philly, winnable, and the Saints...at the dome! Winnable! What a way to end the season and go into the playoffs...peaking on 5 wins with a final win against the Saints! SWEET!

11-5 feels pretty good considering the problems that we've encountered this season (injuries), not to mention, having the hardest schedule EVER!

It's all good!

Brags to my man, Jason Snelling!

Brags to Matty Ice....great game!

Brags to Roddy White!

Rags on Jenk for dropping the touchdown pass....he'll be there when we need him!

Rags on the field goal machine! GET IT TOGETHER!!! I don't know what's going on but for God's sake...FIGURE IT OUT!!!!

Next week...Tampa....it's the start of a new 6 game season. Lets go 5-1 or even 6-0!

Let's have two winning seasons BACK TO BACK!

GO FALCONS!
</intro>

    <intro>
The Falcons had not one, but two chances to win the game against the Panthers today and choked BOTH times!

The Falcons played a some what lack luster game today against the Panthers, allowing two, 80 yard touchdown drives placing the score, Panthers, 14, Falcons3 before they decided to wake up.

Other than the fact that the Falcons had to score field goals instead of touchdowns early in the game, the last quarter hosted a flurry of offense from the Falcons that should have put them in the winner's circle.

Unfortunately, between a botched, 25 yard field goal from the "leagues most prolific scorer" in Jason Elam and an untimely interception thrown buy an aired Ryan, the Birds blew two chances to put the game away.

With numerous injuries to the Falcons, they did make a game of it. Turner made up for most of the offense, running for over 100 yards in the first half before leaving the game with a high ankle strain. His counterpart, Ryan was off the mark most of the day throwing over most of his receivers. The last over throw was the most crucial. On the 50 yard line going in for the possible winning score with a couple of minute left, he threw it right into the arms...of a Panther. Game over. Bummer.

Ryan, in my opinion shouldn't have thrown a pass of that nature (15-20 years down field from the 50), because they needed to run more time off the clock so the Panthers wouldn't have any chance to score last. Instead of running and short passes to chew up the clock, they tried to get a larger chunk of real estate. Bad judgement! Of course, had Jenkins caught it and they go on to win, every one's a genius!

Going into this game, I didn't have a feeling that they would win, so, I feel fortunate that the game took the turn of events that it did. They played better than I expected given the circumstances. To be that close to winning was a real treat and I applaud them.

To me, a split with the Panthers is a good deal. They are a good team. On any given day, they can beat anyone. So can we. The better team won today.

Rags to Jason Elam! For the money he makes...all he has to do is kick a frikken ball through a goal post. I can't believe he missed a 25 yard kick! A game winner! Hopefully, he won't be back next year!

Rags to the porous defense for letting the Panthers connect with Mohammed and Smith. The only 2 guys that they throw it too. The Panther's run game chewed up the Birds too!

Rags to Ryan...he was off all day...he acted like a dear in the headlights.

Brags to Turner. He ran his ass off and he did it all around the ends! Sound familiar? I've been preaching that for ever.

Brags to Snelling. He did an honorable job in the absence of Turner.

Brags to Roddy White for backing up his quarterback. When Ryan got nailed, Roddy was in-between him and the perpetrator, toots sweet! That means, in a hurry.

All in all, it turned out about what I expected. A tough game and the Panthers prevailing. Like I said, when it comes to Carolina, I'll take a split any day!

Better luck next week against the Giants. Maybe we'll catch them with their pants down.

GO FALCONS!
</intro>

    <intro>
There are times a team just has to put away another team. I say, do it and DON'T let them crawl back into the game. I don't need the stress!

The adage, "on any given Sunday" has its place and is played out on countless occasions, however, there are times when teams just need to keep a team down when they have they down!

In the Falcon's game today with the Redskins, had the Falcon's continued their dominance of the Skins in the second half as they did in the first half of the game, I believe that the Skins would have folded and given up the fight during the 3rd quarter. BUT NOOOOOO!

Instead, the Falcon's decided to take them for granted, feel like they had the Skins where they waned them and proceeded to loose grip of the game and let them come back. They scored 14 unanswered points coming within a touchdown. This is after they were ahead 24 to 3.

The third quarter was all Redskins until Michael Turner took matters into his own hands and ripped off a 62 yard run...bulling his way through countless tacklers to the end zone. The touchdown put us up 14 points and took the momentum away from the hapless Skins.

Turner was a beast again today, running for 166 yards or so for his second week. When he is on, we win, well...not last week, but usually we win. His tenaciousness really covers Ryan during his "sophomore slump".

Overall, the whole team played really good today.

Brags to the defense for registering 5 sacks in the first half, a franchise record, only to have a let down in the 3rd quarter.

Brags to Eric Weems who has become a constant play maker on kick off and punt returns.

Brags to Michael Turner...he's a BEAST!

Rags to Ryan for the bonehead play to Gonzales who had 3 defenders on him while Roddy White AND Jenkins was running down field uncovered!. Watch out Matt....don't get too focused on Tony. You can always use him as a decoy ya know! I'm sure he will see that on film this week and never do it again. Matt's a bright kid.

Rags on the dumb ass penalties called for needless mistakes. Please, if the play is going away from you, don't even look like you're holding.

Hey, did Meangelo Hall look like an idiot or what. Not only did he blow coverages and couldn't tackle, but came over to our bench and started some S--t with our bench and Coach Smitty. Smitty WILL get in your face. Hall is such a LOSER! He says he's going to bring up a complaint to the NFL commission about some licks he said was directed in his direction during the skirmish.

I can hear the commish now, "um Mr. Hall, exactly why were you the only Redskin in the middle of that skirmish? Here, let's look at the video again!" It won't go far. Long enough to kick him out the door! What a LOSER! Glad we got rid of that cancer. I mean, how bad can you be when the worst team in the league drops you because you don't play up to their standards! If he's not careful, which he's not (idiot) no teams will want him anymore.

We have a big game next week. Carolina. We really need that win. Hopefully they will have a good week of practice and come out smokin against the Panthers. Jeez...another ass...Steve Smith!

GO FALCONS!
</intro>

    <intro>
The Falcons came within 2 yards of a possible upset of the unbeaten Saints!

In the aftermath of close games, one can usually go back, in retrospect, and see the events that unfolded to change the tide of a game. In retrospect, there where certainly those points in time that steered this game into the direction to where it eventually went.

It started with a dropped 3rd and three pass from deep in Saint's territory. The first down would have placed the Falcons within the Saint's 10 yard line and maybe have allowed the Falcons to tie the game. Anyway, it didn't happen. They went for the field goal, missed it and the Saint's started in the other direction.

The Saints drove for a touchdown. They were up a touchdown. On the possession, Ryan was intercepted and it was taken to the house. Their house! In a matter of minutes, the Saints had gone ahead two touchdowns. It was looking grim, especially knowing that the Saints would get the ball in the second half.

In the second half, the Falcons managed to stop the Saints and score themselves. That felt good. Then they stopped them again. That felt good too. We scored 10 points in the 3rd quarter and held the Saints to 0 points in the 3rd...first time anyone has done that this year. Later, in the fourth quarter, on the 10 yard line, Ryan's pass was tipped and intercepted on the 2 yard line. The tying touchdown was foiled. So, very, very close!

The, problem at this point, is that the Falcon's were still 11 points down against a really good Saints team, one that our defense could not stop, for the most part. Even though we had shut down the potent Saints offense, our offense had to come back and score a lot, fast. Normally, I would have thrown in the towel, so to speak, but the end of last year's Chicago game has taught me to hang with these guys to the end.

In the end, the Falcons got a field goal, and the on-sides kick but just couldn't get the ball down the field fast enough to try an 8 point touchdown to tie.

Points in the game that change the fate of the game. This game was full of them. The best team won tonight. The good thing is that I can hold my head up high....no one thought the Falcons would even BE in this game tonight. The Falcons played valiantly!

Brags on Turner for his running game. Like I have always said...run him around end and pitch to him outside instead of always running him up the middle. See where it got him? The biggest game for him all year! Coach, I know you read this blog...duh!

Brags to Brent Grimes for his ultra human interception and general feistiness.

Brags to Ryan for his steadfastness (a new word I think) and to the defense for stopping the #1 offense in the league as much as they did.

Brags for the defensive blitzes. They were great while they lasted, they just didn't last long enough!

Rags to the referees. Some really bad calls! One defensive holding call that could have stopped the Saints that shouldn't have been called. Of course, there were calls on both sides that were questionable but of course, the ones against the Falcons were the only ones that were REALLY wrong.

Despite the loss, I feel good about how the Falcons played the Saints better than anyone else has all year. They played tough and I think they surprised the football world with their tenacity. They would have won the game had they played any other team.

I'm happy for the Saints. They're the only team that has sucked more than the Falcons through the years. They deserve a good season and I would rather see them in the NFC playoff game or Super Bowl that the hated Cowboys, Giants or Eagles, ho hum!

Next time, we play them in our house. Saints....BEWARE!

GO FALCONS!

    <intro>
I'll never figure how a team can play like two different teams in the same game...like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde!

I've seen games change after the half. I've even seen teams play better or worst from one half to the next but rarely have I seen a team come out, play dominantly on offense and defense in the same quarter...then,all of a sudden, play like they forgot who they were. The Falcon's played like that today against Dallas.

They received the kick off, proceeded to march down the field on a 15 or 16 play drive, score, stop Dallas on their first possession and from there....get amnesia. from that point through most of the game, they did absolutely nothin. Nada!

I was really looking forward to this game being a "barn burner". Unfortunately, the only barn that was on fire was the Falcon's. During their first drive, they could do no wrong. They matriculated down the field with authority unlike anyone has done to the Cowboys. They scored and stopped the Cowboys, 3 and out on their first possession. At this point, I was believing in the "football God "(i usually do this when the Falcons look unstoppable) but half way through the first quarter I was wondering how my team could be replaced with look-a-likes without me noticing.

They looked like the Falcons but they were totally different than the guys that were on the field just before. The Cowboys seemed to be a different team too. They were man handling the Falcons on every front. The Falcon's looked totally inept...after they were so dominant on their first drive. Go figure!

There were a couple of blaring issues. I have a few pet peeves, to which I site from time to time. One, is that, if you give a quarterback, any quarterback, enough time undisturbed in the pocket...he will find his mark. The Falcons tend to send a three man front and the opposing QB has all the time in the world. Hence, their undersized corners get cooked! Today was no different. Romo picked them apart because of their lack of pressure.

I don't know why the coaches think that more people on defense (not on the defensive front line) will make a difference. If you look, when an opposing receiver catches the ball, there are just more D-backs standing around watching him catch it! They're not standing INFRONT of the guy, which to me would make sense, rather than standing next to him...like they're counting on the quarterback to miss his throw rather than getting between the quarterback and the receiver that they're guarding. That makes no sense to me! I have news for you guys....the quarterbacks in this league WILL BEAT YOU GIVEN ENOUGH TIME! I wouldn't count on them to screw up!

A note here* I really hate the Cowboys...their arrogance supersedes them. Please God, if we play them next year...I pray we beat them!

To the game. I'll keep it brief!

On defense...we have to blitz more.....another peeve of mine. As I said, you can't give QB's forever in the pocket. WAKEUP!

Oh yeah, TACKLE!!!!! Did I mention, TACKLE?

On offense...one good way to stop aggressive defenses...screens and draws. I don't know why the Falcon's rarely run these type of plays. When a team does it to us, they kill us! I bet it goes both ways!

How about passing to the backs out of the backfield once and a while? We did it once this week and it went for a score....hmm!

Stop running Turner straight up the middle in the beginning of the game. Wait until later when the defense is tired and not focused on it!

Also, why are opponent's wide outs in the open when they catch the ball and ours have a defender draped all over them?

Hopefully, this game will bring these guys back to earth and make them realize that they really have to play better if they consider themselves a top quality team.

They will have to play better than this if they expect to go over 500. this year. They have a tough season ahead of them. I think the leagues 7th toughest.

Take a breather...I'm not feeling great after this one.

GO FALCONS!
</intro>

    <intro>
Up until a few days ago, I was convinced that the Atlanta Falcons were one of the top teams in the NFC; now I’m not so sure.

After the way the Falcons looked against the Dallas Cowboys, I’m starting to think this year’s team maybe a tad overrated. The Falcons didn’t just start looking bad against the Cowboys, the looked bad against the Chicago Bears last week too.

Matt Ryan didn’t look like Matt Ryan in that game or this one either. He has thrown as many touchdowns as interceptions in both games which has been two. Now, chalk it up to poor play on his part or just poor coaching, but Ryan doesn’t look as good as he did his rookie season. We all thought bringing in tight end Tony Gonzalez will make him even better and more efficient then last year, but so far he hasn’t had much of an impact.

It’s not all Ryan’s fault, the running game has disappeared. Michael Turner hasn’t done much of anything of late which hasn’t help Ryan’s stats. One of the reason’s the offense and especially Ryan was so successful last year was the running game. Now, if he has to carry the team on his back like he has had to do the last few weeks, it’s going to be hard for the Falcons to win.

The defense hasn’t exactly helped either. Tony Romo had a field day against the Atlanta secondary and so did Miles Austin. Quite frankly, if it wasn’t for turnovers by the Bears in last’s week’s game, the Falcons would have lost that game too. The bad news is, that same secondary has to go against Drew Brees and the Saints next Monday.

Brees had no problem tearing up the New York Giants secondary who is much better then the Falcons and he might have a field day against them. Brees and the Saints proved Sunday they can get down by 21 points and still can make a come back. The Saints offense is THAT good.

The Falcons cannot afford to get behind early to the Saints because they don’t have the type of offense that can score quickly and get back into a game. So, what can they do to win the game?

Try to keep the Saints offense on the bench. The Falcons need to do what they do best; run the football and run the clock. Mike Smith does not need nor want to get into a track meet with this team. The Dolphins tried Sunday, and they lost rather then depending on the running game and slowing the game down.

Although the Saints offense is good, their defense is still suspect and the Falcons need to take advantage of that. That’s one reason they have a good chance to win. Another thing they can’t do is turn the ball over. The main reason the Saints got back into that Dolphins game Sunday was turnovers. Matt Ryan cannot turn the ball over and expect to win. The Saints are way too good for that and they turn interceptions into points.

This game Sunday will either show the Falcons are contenders as we all once thought or pretenders as they look now.
</intro>

    <intro>
Week 7 of the NFL season was a wacky one for the NFC South. One of the top teams of the division got a beat down, the other was down by 21 and came back and won; amazing. As for Carolina and Tampa Bay, it was business as usual.

The Atlanta Falcons looked like their NFC South counterparts the Bucs and Panthers Sunday as they were defeated by the Dallas Cowboys, 37-21. Matt Ryan threw for two touchdowns, but also threw once again two interceptions. The Cowboys offense made the Falcons defense look like toast because they were burned so many times. Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo threw for 300 yards and three touchdown passes while Miles Austin had two of those touchdown passes and had 171 yards receiving.

While the Falcons were busy getting blown out Sunday, the Saints were trying to avoid the same fate. The undefeated Saints at one point were down by double digits to the Miami Dolphins; it looked all was lost until Drew Brees came to the rescue. Although he had three picks Sunday, Brees used his legs to get the Saints back in the game. Out of his three scores, two of them were quarterback sneaks. After that, the Saints defense took over and ended the Dolphins dreams of taking down the Saints with the final score being, 46-34.

Meanwhile, the woes continued for the Panthers and Bucs Sunday. Tom Brady and the New England offense torched the Bucs for 35 points and 414 yards while holding them to seven points and 240 yards. Oh well it could have been worse, at least the Patriots didn’t put 59 up on the Bucs.

The Panthers Jake Delhomme may have made his last start as Panthers’ starting qb for awhile after he had another disaster game Sunday losing to the Buffalo Bills, 20-9. Although Delhomme threw for 325 yards, he had zero touchdowns and three interceptions. The Panthers had more yards then the Bills 425 to 167 and yet they still lost. It’s been that kind of season for the Carolina Panthers.

Next week the showdown between the Saints and Falcons in New Orleans; should be a good one.

</intro>

    <intro>
This year, I thought, we'll have about 29 seconds to win the game...piece of cake compared to last year's 11 seconds!

I think my knuckles will never be the same. They're going to be permanently void of blood! I don't know if I could take 2 games a year with Chicago. I'm glad we're not in the same conference.

These two teams seem to take it to the wire! Last year, the Falcon's had 11 seconds after the Bears scored the go ahead touchdown. After the Bears scored I had given the Falcon's up for dead. I was even talking to my buddy Steveareno on the phone about what a gut-wrenching loss it was when, low and behold, 2 plays later, the Falcon's were setting up for the game winning field goal!

My buddy was taking a smoke break and licking his wounds when I told him that they were going to kick a field goal and to go back inside and watch. Darned if they didn't get the field goal and win the game...with 11 seconds left! I'll never give up on them again!

OK, so this year, 29 seconds left, they were on our 1 yard line, ready to win the game. As fate would have it, Orlando Pace, the monster of their offense, who quelled John Abraham for the entire game, flinched! He came up out of his stance and a 5 yarder for "illegal Procedure" came flying out! Now, instead of 4th and goal from our 1 yard line, it turned into a 4th and goal from the 6 yards line. THERE IS A GOD! Remind me to send him a Christmas card this year!

On the following play, the pass over the middle was tipped by Jamal Anderson and fell to the ground on the 3 yard line. GAME OVER! I started to breath again, as I was turning blue and slowly pried my hands from my sofa's armrest. What an ending! It was INTENSE!

It is really hard to brag on any one player or rag on any one player because, most of them played really good as well as making mistakes. The Bears just made more mistakes and at worse times...like on out 1 yard line with 29 seconds left. We out played them overall and made less mistakes at crucial times.

I will brag on Eric Weems, who's 60 yard kick off return, putting the Falcon's on the Bear's 38 yard line with 3 minutes left in the game, was the sweetest play of the game!

I'll also brag on the defense for a change. They blitzed the HELL out of the Bears! They had no choice! Cutler would have sliced and diced the Falcon's defense into next week if they hadn't! He's too good to be left alone...he'll kill you. Hopefully, Van Gorder will blitz more...see...it works coach! He must be reading my blog!

Like I said, it was a game win. No one played great but everyone played good enough! It was a strong showing. Hopefully, they can keep this mentality going into Dallas next week. The Cowboys are very "beatable" right now and that would be a great team to stomp! Speaking of stomping....I'm still gloating over the stomping we put on San Francisco last week! That was really sweet! I'll milk that one for a long time! A real long time.

4-1 is a good place to be. I feel good!

GO FALCONS!
</intro>

    <intro>

Over the past few weeks in Atlanta, the question has arose, Is Matt Ryan overrated? This question was asked on sports radio 790 the Zone, and it was a topic that many wanted to chime in on. Some said “Yes, he hasn’t even won a playoff game and he is being crowned as the next best thing.” Some have said “No, he made us Falcons fans forget the name Michael Vick.” Personally, I can see why my fellows Atlantans believe this but he deserves the praise he is getting.

He took arguably the worst team full of backup players in the NFL to an 11 win season as a rookie and he made the players around him better, for instance making Roddy White a pro bowl receiver and allowing Michael Turner to blossom into one of the best backs in the league. Even though he is getting commercial deals and nicknames like Matty Ice, he has done the unthinkable by taking a team, whose franchise Quarterback was placed in federal prison for dog fighting and then released their stars and replaced them with younger players and making them super bowl contenders. He was placed in a tough situation and succeeded, which not many rookie quarterbacks are able to do.

The most impressive thing about Ryan is the poise he shows even as a rookie. From his first pass (which was a 62 yd TD) in the NFL, he looked and acted as if he had been there before. For example in the Bears game last season, Falcons are down by 1 with 12 seconds remaining in the game, Falcons have the ball at their own 44, Ryan completes a 26 yd pass with 1 second remaining to set up the game winning 48 yd field goal to win. Now I may be crazy, but how many rookie quarterbacks do you think could have done that? None.

Most rookies have to show their team they can win to be able to earn respect from his team, but Ryan had respect from the first day of training camp. There is a story that former Falcons safety Lawyer Milloy told about Ryan, the first day of training camp the few veterans on the team said this locker room needs a new stereo system, what does Ryan do? He goes out and buys a state of the art stereo system for the locker room. From then on, Ryan always had the respect of his teammates and his play on the field has only reinforced that respect, leading the Falcons to a 14 – 6 regular season record and a 0 – 1 playoff record, in his season and half in the ATL.

Now there is another question that has divided Atlanta Falcons fans, Vick or Ryan? It has to be Matt Ryan, yes Vick did lead the falcons to the NFC title game, but Ryan can actually THROW a football, something that Vick couldn’t seem to grasp in his years in Atlanta. When it comes down to it, Matt Ryan is the future of the Falcons, whether the city of Atlanta likes it or not.
</intro>

    <intro>
Week five in the NFL was an almost perfect week for the South; almost. The Atlanta Falcons (3-1) and Carolina Panthers (1-3) both bounced back from painful loses a few weeks ago, while the hits just keep on coming from Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-5).

The Atlanta Falcons had no problem handling the San Francisco 49ers, 45-10. Matt Ryan had a huge day throwing for over three hundred and two touchdowns one of them being a 90-yard pass to Roddy White. Michael Turner also had a big game scoring three touchdowns and rushing for 97 yards. The Falcons defense held the 49ers to 279 yards on offense and one touchdown which was by former Alabama running back Glenn Coffee who rushed for 45 yards.

The Panthers won their first game of the year defeating the hapless Washington Redskins, 20-17. The Redskins lead at halftime 10-2 on a first half Jason Campbell touchdown pass to running back Clinton Portis, but the tide so the speak begin to turn for the Panthers when they stopped Portis in the endzone for a safety. The Panthers would go one an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter, but the rally began in the third quarter when quarterback Jake Delhomme threw to Jeff King for a 17-yard touchdown to make the score 17-9 Washington. Then after a John Kasay 43-yard field goal, running back Jonathan Stewart ran up the middle for the Panthers final touchdown and a Delhomme pass to wide receiver Steve Smith for a two-point conversion made the final score 20-17 ending the Panthers losing streak.

The Tampa Bay Bucs weren’t so lucky Sunday as they dropped their fifth game in a row to the Philadelphia Eagles, 33-14. This game marked the returned of Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb who had been injured list the last few weeks because of a rib injury. McNabb picked up right where he left off throwing for three touchdown passes and 264 yards. It wasn’t all bad for the Bucs as quarterback Josh Johnson threw two touchdown passes to tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. who also had 102 yards receiving.

</intro>

    <intro>
It's amazing the difference a week makes! This bye week came at precisely the right time! All the issues the Falcons needed to fix, got fixed! It was their best, most complete game this year.

What a game! It's hard for me to express the satisfaction I have from the game between the Falcons and San Francisco. It's truly a double barrel of ecstasy! On one side, you have the fact that the Falcons, or any team for that matter, would beat the 49ers 45 to 10 and rub their nose in defeat, embarrassing them, not just to their fan base (whom I loath) but to themselves. How many times have they made other fans and teams feel that way.

On the other side, the Falcons seemed to have fix all of their weaknesses during the bye week. Going into the bye week, they had no long passing game, Turner was not getting the yardage that he needed to control the game, the defense wasn't getting sacs, our pass defense sucked, Gonzales wasn't getting the ball enough and our defense wasn't getting turnovers, Norwood wasn't getting the ball, Matt Ryan wasn't throwing long passes.....did I leave out anything?

On a day that was full of the anticipation, of two good caliber teams, both prominent in their division's race to the top, it was Atlanta that was more sound, better coached, better man for man and played with more intensity.

At one time, the score was 14-10 Atlanta. Of course, this was after the score was 14-0 Atlanta. The turning point was when San Fran marched down the field, was stopped and missed their field goal attempt. They blinked and Atlanta took the bull by the horns and did what any good team does when their opponent is down....kick them! They scored and scored and scored. Their was nothing that the 49ers could do to stop the onslaught. It seemed reminiscent of when the 49ers would do that to us...for 20 YEARS!

Bitter...you bet I am, but today made that hurt just a little better. It's down from 11 to about, say, 5 or 6. A few more years of this and if the 49ers never win again, and maybe, just maybe I'll be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Aside from a couple of holding calls and 2 turnovers, which, didn't hurt us in the long run, I'm giving kudos to the entire team. Heck, even Jamal Anderson, who had been left for dead as a bust, had 2 sacs and a hurry on the QB that a half second earlier, would have been a sac. He, believe it or not, had all the sacs in the game except for Kroy Beirman, the "Beer Man", which had one. Shoot, just from that statistic alone, it was obvious that we were being favored by the football Gods.

We had a visit from "lady luck" as well. When a pass to Roddy White was intercepted by Tray Bly he was off to the end zone. Instant karma reared it's head and as he was doing the "Deon Sanders beauty hand behind the ear" taunt, Roddy White, whom had been running after him in an attempt to foil his end zone dance, caught up to him and to Tray's surprise, stripped him of the ball and the Falcons recovered for a first down. I would NOT want to be around Singletary if I were him...Don't look him in the eye Tray! Ha Ha!

Kudos go to the defense and Smitty. Thank you for the Blitzes! See, they do work! Please do them some more this year!

Kudos also go to the Falcon's pick up, Brian Williams. Not only did he have an interception today but he also ran down a sure touch down. Instead of 7 points, the 49ers had to settle for a mere field goal. The defense was stingy! At that point, we were trading touchdowns for their field goals. That scenario favors the touchdowns. Believe me, I know! I've been on the losing side of that equation far too many times.

Kudos to Matt Ryan. He passed for 329 yards, the most ever for him as a pro, and, he ran in a touchdown! Bravo!

Kudos to Roddy White for setting a club record, 210 receiving yards in a single game. Never been done before! Bravo Roddy!

Micheal Turner gets Kudos too, even though he was held to under 100 yards. He ran in 2 touchdowns! Bravo!

It was a team win! Every player played their part in the victory!

I COULDN"T BE HAPPIER! What a great week! My Jackets kicked ass this weekend too!

Let's keep it up!

GO FALCONS!
</intro>

    <intro>
The bye week is a double edged sword.

I hate the bye week. Well, I don't hate it, it's just that, what's a football weekend when your team's not playing? Not much.

On the other hand, it is a useful time non the less. As far as the Falcon's are concerned, Jerious Norwood has an extra week to get his head on straight before he gets it knocked crooked again. Hopefully, the coaches use this time to figure out what to do about running teams....like for the next 4 weeks.

It also give them time to reflect as to what they can possibly dig out of their "bag 'o tricks" to get 3 or 4 extra yards so they can convert precious third down conversions. They've had some trouble with that one...especially when the game seems to be on the line.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the non existent blitz! Hell, if they'd pay me a few bucks, I'd promise to run on to the field and fall on the ground so some of their offensive linemen will fall over me so our guys could jump over them and get to their QB...at this point, it doesn't look like they'll get to them any other way.

I wonder what would happen if the ball were hiked and they just stood there for a moment...let the offensive guys commit and push thin air, then go around the defensive player and go for the ball carrier. It's got to be easier than actually trying to go through a 300 pound guy. I remember a college play, last year I think, where they offense hiked the ball and the entire offensive line never came out of their stance. The defense became really confused really fast and just stopped in their tracks thinking that the play was dead.

A few seconds into the play, as everyone is figuring out what the heck happened, the QB throws a 60 yard pass to his receiver in the end zone. No flags...touch down! Maybe there's something to that.

Personally, I think that one of the problems with the Falcons is that they want to label themselves as a "running" team. I think that a title limits a team. What if they were a "scoring from anywhere on the field at anytime" team. Now, wouldn't that be a little less predictable?

Like I said, a bye week is a double edged sword. My teams not playing, but then again, it's not playing. They just play with too much drama. Why can't they be like the Colts...you know they're going to win. No drama there. Shoot, even if they do lose a game, the fans know that it's just one game and that they'll be back winning next week.

So, maybe the Falcons will remedy their run defense woes, their offensive woes, and all their other woes by the time they play the 49ers....maybe, just maybe...

Thank God that Gore will be out for the game. That gives us a fighting chance because, if they don't get their act together in a hurry, with all the ranked teams that we ill be playing this year...dare I say that our streak of not winning back to back seasons might become a reality.

Maybe, the bye week is at a perfect juncture for this team. It's time to get out bearings straight early!

GO FALCONS!
</intro>
